No Bread, Need Lunch

>> Thursday, June 26, 2008

Usually Tuesday is bread day, I make 2 loaves of bread before I head off to work at noon.  This Tuesday I tried to make whole wheat, which usually works, but the bread fairies were not on my side and the stuff wouldn't rise...I made whole wheat bricks.  I even let it rise an extra hour and hubby baked it for me.  Still pretty bad, I chucked it out.

So the week goes on with no bread.  On Thursday, we needed to pack lunch and eat it on the road...so I scoured the fridge and found a can of Crescents in the produce drawer of all places.  These wraps remind me of those Hot Pockets that other kids got while my mom made Healthy Lunch ( why was Healthy Lunch so embarrassing back then?)  I filled them with turkey and Vegan Gourmet Cheddar and served them with "nectarine sticks."  The leftover dough got filled with strawberry jam for Afternoon Treat.  Not exactly a healthy lunch, but better than stopping at Wendy's for a plain burger kid's meal.

Sometimes a mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do! I just recently found that the SuperstoreSlider buns and Bagel Thins ( my kids live both and the size is just perfect) are safe for my kids as are the Bakestone Brothers Multigrain Bun Thins at Costco. Great for a back up when I don't have homemade stuff in the freezer.
